The Benefits of a Yoga Lifestyle

Yoga is so much more than a fitness regime, with spiritual and mental well-being very much a part of the concept. For thousands of years, yoga remained hidden from the western world until it was introduced in the 1980s, when a few celebrities began to sing its praises. The eastern philosophies have become more popular in the west, as they offer complete harmony within, and for the past few decades, this ancient Indian practice has been helping people to deal with the stresses of modern life.

Stress Relief

Yoga is known to relieve stress, and this is possible due to the inner calmness and serenity that meditation brings. The breathing exercises teach us how to relax, and by concentrating on one’s breathing, it is easier to enter a state of meditation. With today’s hectic lifestyle, we need to take time out and give the conscious mind a rest from the constant pressures we encounter on a daily basis. Yoga is an effective way to do this, not only that, it is a great physical tune-up, with many different styles to suit everyone.

Many Sides to Yoga

Yoga comes in many different forms, there is Yin Yoga, which stretches all of the muscle groups and is very therapeutic. For those who want to unwind and say goodbye to some stress, Restorative Yoga is ideal, while you can develop a higher level of suppleness in your joints with the Extreme Stretch program.

Meditation

Buddhists have been doing this for centuries, and the practice has a positive effect on those who meditate. The concept of meditation is sometimes confusing for a layperson, and a common misconception is that meditation is thinking of nothing. Actually, this is almost impossible, as the conscious mind is always thinking, and meditation is merely a method to focus the conscious mind on one single activity, and this does not allow it to wander. The longer your conscious mind is in this state, the more beneficial it is, with many people reporting a much higher level of clarity and understanding of the way things are.
